In the early 1700s king and government was of the opinion that the farmers were not farming in the most efficient way possible. Officials and agronomists were sent around Denmark-Norway to document how bad things were and to suggest improvements.
The Royal Danish Country Household Company was initiated in 1769. The company was meant to promote new and improved farming methods. They would award learned men and farmers alike for concrete actions or suggestions of improvements. The first award-ceremony was held in 1771.
